2017 marks a 20 year anniversary for professional website design and e-commerce agency Iconography, which was founded in 1997.
From the company’s early days of designing for the web and creating good looking, useable websites, the now ten-strong team has grown and developed to become an impressive force in the dynamic world of e-commerce.
Working mainly in retail and trade-related (business-to-business) sectors, Iconography design, build and effectively optimise websites that provide a superb user experience. It also employs its own ‘Zone1’ platform to integrate those websites with back office retail management systems, ensuring that clients can conveniently and easily handle product listings, stock, orders and more, from one interface.
With an established office in Ilminster which houses its design and build teams, the company’s multichannel solutions have seen it enjoy strong growth, doubling in size over the past five years. The opening of its satellite office at The Hive last year provides Iconography with a sales and marketing office from which to build its fast-expanding and impressive client portfolio.
Iconography’s success, according to Managing Director Wayne Robbins, comes from its depth of technological skill, web development ability, client support and customer care, whilst its ability to spot a gap in the market for powerful websites that meet retailers needs has powered the company’s growth.
“We call ourselves ‘Digital Artisans’ because our small but highly skilled team of designers, developers and project managers really do take pride in crafting superb solutions, tailored around the needs of each client.” Wayne explains.
“Traditionally a web agency we recognised early on that e-commerce was the way forward and, whilst still specialising in website design and build plus supporting services such as e-marketing, hosting, email support and SEO, we also concentrated on forming a strategic partnership with Swan Retail, an established systems provider, to create an impressive joint capability for multi-channel projects.
“This has stood us in excellent stead and allowed us to develop strong experience in a number of retail sectors, including furniture, garden centre and department stores, and attract clients across the UK such as ECCO Shoes and its wide network of stores, the large and independent retailer Fishpools Furniture and well-known quality luggage brand Tripp.”
“Excitingly, our Zone1 platform means the quality of solutions we offer our large retailers can also be tailored to smaller individual retailers in a wide range of sectors.” Wayne continues. “This means we anticipate further growth and this year look forward to expanding our business development team from The Hive.

When did you move in?
We joined The Hive business community in August 2016.
Why did you choose The Hive?
Several of our team live in the Weston-super-Mare area, so we wanted a more local base for our satellite office. The look and feel of The Hive appealed to us – modern, open plan offices, a colourful environment and an exciting mix of businesses within the building.
How have you found The Hive experience so far?
We found The Hive very easy to locate to and, since moving in, we have found the reception services and support to be fantastic. We also especially like the break out areas throughout The Hive, which have proved conducive to developing new contacts and give us plenty of opportunities to meet other tenants.
